Semi Final 2 the entries so far…

February 24, 2008

Semi-Final 2 22nd May

Croatia, Denmark, Bulgaria, Portugal, Ukraine, Switzerland, FYR Macedonia, Iceland, Cyprus, Latvia, Belarus, Hungary, Albania, Sweden, Turkey, Lithuania, Georgia, Czech Republic and Malta.

And in semi final 2 these countries have chosen so far:

Euroband – This Is My Life

A Euro-pop thumping masterpiece. Imagine having too much to drink in G-A-Y and dancing to a Leona Lewis ‘A Moment Like This’ remix and this comes on after, you’re dancing to shit but you don’t care. You’re just going to dance. Its pure euro-pop. Only mums go to Iceland, and now with this song gay men too.

FYR Macedonia ( Macedonia IS Greek, rename this country now!!!!)

Tamara, Vrčak & Adrian – Vo Ime Na LjubovtaEastern sounding at the start. Eastern Europeans do rap… oh dear. The female singer looks like Lilly Allen,  the two rappers look like knobs.

Kraljevi ulice & 75 cents – Romanca Oh dear. Grandads trying to rap. 75 Cents, he’s so ghetto (actually he was probably in a Nazi ghetto), 50 Cent should be scared. But he’s so old he’s a bit unaware of everything and he can’t hold the microphone still. Must be hard to be a pensioner in Croatia.

Deep Zone & Balthazar – DJ, Take Me Away

She can’t sing live, and the song consists of like, 4 words (similar in style to Madonna-Music but 10000 times worse). The performance I saw was 2 fat Bulgarians pretending to DJ pulling imaginary rope. It’s strange, like Bulgaria really. But it’s not that bad a song really.

Ani Lorak – Shady Lady

In Ukraine they only voted for the song as the singer, Ani Lorak was always going to be performing. I think it’s because she’s quite attractive, she probably shagged her way into Eurovision. Still, the song is a Eurovision classic, it’s generating a lot of buzz, mainly because men want her and women think she’s an inspiration. I think neither are true. But don’t be surprised if Eurovison 2009 is in the Ukraine.

Mor Ve Ötesi– Deli

A rocky number sung in Turkish. It’s not too interesting. Not really fun. Too serious actually. What I wish is for them to be singing with muslim veils on. Now that will make a statement. But Europe likes serious so I think this song will do well.

 Simon Matthew- All Night Long

I like this song, he seems to be enjoying himself and territorial voting means he will get votes from the fellow Scandinavian countries. But I don’t mind about that, if the UK have any sense we will vote him through to Belgrade too!

Paola Meneguzzi- Era Stupendo

Probably the best song in this years competition. He has a great voice. I really like this song. It’s actually got a sense of quality about it. I hope he wins!!!!

Evdokaia- Femme Fatale

Sung in Greek (unlike the Greek entry). It’s very Greek sounding. Not that interesting. It sounds like your mum wanting to sing in Greek. She;s got an interesting performance. But best not for TV!

Ruslan Alenho- Hasta La Vista

Bad Euro-pop. Sung in English so obviously the lyrics sound bad!! Boring. I turned back to the Swiss song!

Semi Final 1 the entries so far…

Semi-Final 1 20th May

Montenegro, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Poland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Estonia, the Netherlands, Romania, Moldova, San Marino, Slovenia, Norway, Belgium, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia.

So far in Semi- final 1  these countries have chosen their entry:

Maria Haukaas Storeng – Hold On Be Strong

A ballad sung in English (because they think that will gain them credibilty and points). It’s a bit too soppy, she sings about not wanting to be lonely and there is someone out there for you. I wish she would say ‘when your lonely you’re lonely, thats life get over it’. Then she may get 12 points. Needs to work on her performance, swaying her hips doesn’t do it. Sounds like a B-side of a Celine Dion CD, just not good.

Moldova (Anyone know where this country is?)

Geta Burlacu – A Century Of Love

A jazzy song, but sounds a bit too old. Its the kind of song you hear when you are stuck in a lift. Except worse. She can’t reach certain notes in fact I am falling asleep listening. Still, some country with bad hearing will give them 12 points, maybe the EU should invest in free hearing tests for all citizens…

Isis Gee – For Life

Isis is American born and this is actually a beautiful ballad, she sings it well. But she looks like Tori Spelling. She has a nice voice, sometime operatic. I think Poland are desperate to get to the final, this sounds like the end song of a Faith Hill album, not Polish at all.  It’s actually good.

Dustin The TurkeyIrelande Douze Points

 Irelande douze points
Give us another chance, we’re sorry for riverdance
Sure Flately he’s a yank
And the Danube flows through France
Block voting, shock voting
Give your 12 today
You’re all invited to Dublin Ireland
And we’ll party the Shamrock way
Eastern Europe we love you
Do you like Irish stew?
Or goulash as it is to you?
Shake your feathersListen Bulgaria we love you
Belarus, Georgia, Montenegro,
Moldavia, Albania, Croatia,
Poland, Russia, Ukraine,
Macedonia, Love you Turkey
Hungary, Estonia, Slovakia,
Armenia, Bosnia Herzegovina
And don’t forget the Swiss!
Whether the Europeans will appreciate this masterpiece remains to be seen… Western Europe fights back!!!

Nico & Vlad Mirita – Pe-o Margine De Lume

Yet another ballad, a man and a woman singing to each other, it’s not bad really either. The man looks like he needs to use the toilet (diarrhoea) but their voices are good together.

Rebeka Dremelj –Vrag Naj Vzame

Hahaha! This is terrible! She’s pretty. Probably get some votes from hormonal boys.

Bosnia & Herzegovina

Elvir Lakovic Laka – Dzemper

This sounds like a nightmare. If I woke up and heard this song playing at night I would probably jump out of the window!!!

Gisela- Casanova

It sounds like we are still in the 1990’s. After one listen I have forgotten it. So must be bad.

Kreisiraadio – Leto Svet If aliens landed and saw this entry, they probably would fly away again or exterminate the human race. Three fat man singing, girls in bikinis flying flags. It’s a comedy song. Comedy being that it’s impossible not to laugh AT it and not With it. So bad, so good!

Boaz Mauda -Ke’ilo Kan

Not a bad acoustic chilled out sound. Sung in both Hebrew and English. He has a nice voice. I can imagine listening to this on a hot day as the sun goes down. It won’t do well because he is Israeli… a shame really. It would’t have won either. It’s just a nice pleasant song.

The Netherlands

Hind- Your Heart Belongs to Me

Boring. Nothing special. Enough said.

Ishtar – O Julissi Na Jalini

Hahahahahahahaha!!! What a funny little tune. She has a pretty little voice. It sounds very ‘continental’. I like it because it reminds me of a catfood advert in which the cat is desperate for food and its Flemish owner is cycling around Brussels looking for the perfect meal for her pussy.

Sirusho-  Qela Qela

Good song. It’s good a good mix of Persian beats and Western stuff. A remix of this would be HOT!!! Her voice sounds manufactured and its obviously all about the performance with her. The main competition with this song will be from the next act on my list…

Kalomoira- My Secret Combination

Why this song is performed in English I don’t know, the lyrics are awful. But, I like this song because its a pure pop song. I hope it does well, I enjoy dancing to it in the Greek night clubs.

Elnur and Samir- Day after Day

Oh dear Lord!!! You have to see this to believe it. This is the weirdest song I’ve ever heard. Angels and Devils. It sounds like a car exhaust waking you up in the morning. Awful.

Dima Bilan- Believe

It’s going for an R&B feel. Dima is a big star in Russia. He’s singing in English here. His pronunciation isn’t that good. I do like this song though.

Teräsbetoni – Missä miehet ratsastaa

Finland trying to repeat Lordi? It’s a bit crazy and VERY funny to watch!!! Not good at all though.

General introduction

February 24, 2008

Hello. My name is Glenn and for the next few months I will critique the farce that is known as the Eurovision Song Contest.

Because the UK funds this we don’t really have to worry much about what we send to the competition. This year already in the final on 24th May are France, Germany, Serbia, Spain and United Kingdom. There are two semi-finals in which 10 countries each are chosen (by public vote to go to the final).

The rest of Europe has to battle it out at semi-finals. And believe me, they are taking it seriously. I am living in Greece and they are very much Euro fans!

So let the fun and games begin…

Hello world!
